The Journey So Far

The Preferental story started a long way before the business was created in 2024. Back in 2000, Kate and her sister Sarah were running their successful boutique agency, Sarah Lorden Real Estate, which Veronica approached when she decided to make a career shift into real estate sales.

Fast forward six years and after Veronica had proven herself to be a successful sales person, the trio entered into negotiations to open a second agency under the Lorden banner. But it wasn’t to be at that time. Veronica took a year out to have a child and instead decided to “jump the fence” and become a buyers agent.

Kate and Sarah continued to grow their business for another four years until they merged with a larger business.

Kate then moved into a sales role but never lost her passion for property management. Meanwhile Veronica deepened her knowledge of property investment through her buyers agency and, amongst other activities, becoming a Qualified Property Investment Advisor.

Fast forward another ten years and the time was finally right for Kate and Veronica to reunite and join forces to create a property management business with a difference. Their aim is to be a breath of fresh air – to surprise and delight.

Our mission is to redefine property management by taking a proactive, investor-minded approach that goes beyond the ordinary. We believe that effective property management is about more than just maintenance and collecting rent — it’s about maximizing long-term returns for our clients while ensuring a positive experience for tenants.

By combining commercial acumen with hands-on care, they manage properties the way they should be managed: with respect, accountability, and a focus on creating value.

“We’ve seen that property management can be done differently, and we’re committed to building trust and setting a new standard of excellence where owners and tenants can all thrive together. When long-term investment returns and tenant satisfaction align, everyone wins.”

While Preferental is a new business, Kate and Veronica are not new to the industry. They know a fresh approach is needed. Rental property providers (that’s “landlords” in old parlance) deserve to feel confident that their property is actually being managed. And renters need to feel at home and respected.
